Size Matters

High School is about learning.  For example, we discover  the best study habits to become successful students. Some may find a secluded area in the library with complete silence helps them absorb the meaning behind the novel, The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway.
While others prefer studying while blasting Madonna through headphones because they've realized this is the most boring book assigned to high school sophomores and really Mr. Burns will delight in telling you the meaning of it for days.

Not only is high school about academics and study habits,  it's about finding out who you are.  Are  you the type of girl who belongs in the Fun Bunch learning cheer leading routines?

Perhaps you enjoy smoking in the parking lot discussing cars and which member of Poison is your favorite? The beauty of high school is that for four years you can try out all different groups of friends, music and most importantly-Hair.

Part of high school (and being immature) is wanting long hair when it is short, short when it is long, curly when it is straight. You get the idea. I was constantly trying out who I was and how to feel like ME.

In the early 1980's, girls were coming out of the Laura Ingalls, Holly Hobby straight long hair look into the big hair look.  Let's face it, a lot of the 1980's was about things being bigger than they were. Take Madonna for instance, she piled and sprayed up that hair, globbed on tons of jewelry and sang her little chipmunk heart out. She exuded confidence, as well as sluttiness, but that's another blog for another time.

There are handwriting experts who can tell you how confidant you are based on your tall, bold "t's" or that you're an introvert based on your diminutive "f's."  Perhaps one could tell your personality based on your hair style?

If I had gone on to get my Ph.D, I would have researched if big hair boosts your self esteem. I remember ratting my bangs and spraying my hair with Aqua Net.
The height of my bangs and the poof of my hair definitely impacted my mood.

Paging through my yearbook, I wonder about SoufflĂ©' Girl. My friend and I named her this because her hair on one side was a large round puff ball. The other side was shaved and it really looked like half of her head deflated.
Take that deflated soufflĂ© and add her quiet, shy and meek personality. Coincidence?
I think I'm on to something here.

Merrill Middle School Gymnasium I was just finishing up this blog post and asked my 17 year old son to read a bit of it.  I really didn'...
